On October 20th, our Club will welcome prospective new members.  Please call and extend an invite to folks that you believe would be interested in Rotary and the service we do.   Kevin Heller announced that there will be opportunity for winning a significant award by bringing in a bonafide prospect to lunch.   Please provide Russ with the names of your confirmed guests in advance so that we can acknowledge them and have enough food prepared.

We have an excellent program lined up.   "A Sterling Story - Rural Redevelopment along the Riverfront"  In 2000, Northwestern Steel and Wire filed for bankruptcy displacing 1500 employees and throwing uncertainty into the economies of Sterling, Rock Falls, and the surrounding communities.  15 years later, much has changed.  Some other large manufacturers have exited, but a core complement have not only survived, but new players have arrived...including Sterling Steel Corporation and WalMart Distribution Center.  Plans for redeveloping the riverfront are in bloom and moving forward.  Attorney and Sterling native son Greg Hummel will present "A Sterling Story"....one of challenge, rebirth, and renewal in our community.

1.  Please remember the Four-way Test when directing comments and questions to speakers and other members. a) Is it the truth? b) Is it fair to all concerned? c) Will it build good will and better friendships? d) Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

2.  Once you have your guest speaker lined up for the meeting program, please email Russ Siefken at russ@essex1.com so that it can be included in the eBulletin.  Also, please ask the speaker to stay as close as possible to the microphone when speaking.

3.  Please park at the YWCA or by Grummert's, not in a Sterling Federal Bank lot.

4.  Think of who you can invite to a meeting as a potential new member.

5.  If you have to leave early from the meeting, please apologize in advance to the speaker so that he/she does not think that you were walking out on him/her.

6.  Please sit closer to the front of the room than to the back.  And try to site with the new members whenever you can....get to know them....make them feel welcome.

7.  Whenever you host a student guest, as you are chatting with him/her over lunch, please tell them about our club.  Tell them what Rotary is all about.  Tell them what to expect during the meeting;  the opening, fun & frolic, boots & shoes, etc.   Tell him/her about local and international service projects that Rotary is involved with.   Make them feel welcome.
